HTC Eternity leaked: 1.5GHz processor, 4.7-inch display, front-facing camera

As the world runs short on snarky phone titles (and in fact, starts using a couple of the gems on more than one occasion), we're left to overlook the moniker here while focusing on what's important: that display. In fact, the 4.7-inch WVGA Super LCD shown here actually does seem to extend on for Eternity, and if HTC Inside's leak pans out, we could be looking at the world's next WP7 superphone. It's bruited that this fellow will be shipping with a single-core 1.5GHz processor, 8 megapixel camera (autofocus, dual LED flash), a 720p movie mode, front-facing 1.3 megapixel camera, 16GB of storage, DLNA support, Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS and a 1,650mAh battery. That's a pretty startling list of features, and savvy Windows Phone followers will recognize that the Mango update will indeed be necessary before that front-facing shooter becomes useful. Needless to say, we'll be keeping an ear to the ground for more, as essentials like price and release have thus far eluded us.

Samsung drops Apple countersuit -- Apple's still got a bone to pick

Samsung drops counter suit against Apple -- Apple's still got a
bone to pick
Back in April, Samsung slapped back at Apple's claims of patent infringement with a healthy helping of ten claims of its own. Now Bloomberg is reporting that Samsung quietly dropped its countersuit against the Cupertino-based company on June 30th, in an attempt "to streamline the legal proceedings." Of course that doesn't mean the saga is over: Apple's smartphone infringement accusations stand, as do legal battles in South Korea, Japan, Germany, and the UK. Samsung says it will also continue to fight Apple's accusations in the US in the form of a counter-claim. One down, one to go?

Update: To clarify, this does not mean that Samsung has abandoned its own infringement claims against Apple. Those claims have been rolled into counter-claims in the original suit.

Apple seeks preliminary injunction on Infuse 4G, Galaxy S 4G, Droid Charge, and Galaxy Tab 10.1

Drama. Rather than leaving well enough alone -- at least long enough for its lawyers to properly enjoy the Independence Day weekend -- Apple has seemingly kicked its ongoing legal battle with Samsung up a notch. According to a filing discovered by FOSS Patents, the perturbed in Cupertino have filed a motion for a preliminary injunction with the US District Court for the Northern District of California. Interestingly, the motion hones in on just four devices: the Infuse 4G, Galaxy S 4G, Droid Charge, and Galaxy Tab 10.1. It's a pretty bold move on Apple's part -- if this thing holds, and it's determined that the aforesaid products may well indeed be infringing on Apple's rights, Sammy could be forced to yank those products from US shelves within a couple of months. If it falls through, however, Apple's entire case will likely take a serious hit. We'd ponder why everyone can't just get along, but at this point, we're guessing the act of forgiveness has become a foreign concept for both parties.

Samsung Corby II – Low-end with smartphone tendencies

Samsung Corby is one of the most well sold mobile phones of the South Korean producer but even it needed an update under the form of the new Corby II.
Opposed to the previous model, Samsung had to consider the potential market niche the new phone can attack, where smartphones have already started invading the market. This is why the new Corby II is a low end phone with smartphone tendencies that could be preferred by many users.

Here are its main technical characteristics:
  • 3.2” touchscreen capacitive display with a resolution of 240×320 pixels
  • 26 MB of internal memory, expandable to 16 GB with microSD cards
  • Connectivity: Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, GPRS, EDGE, Bluetooth 3.0, microUSB
  • 2 MP camera with QVGA video recording
  • FM radio with RDS
  • TouchWiz platform
  • Size: 109.9 x 60.6 x 11.7 mm, Weight: 102 grams

Design and build characteristics

Dedicated to youngsters the Samsung Corby II tries to adopt a daring design, which is why it has curved lines and is available in a large palette of colors including yellow and pink. Everything revolves around the touchscreen display which has a large enough diagonal for its class. Under the screen you will find the buttons for receiving and denying calls, framed by a long narrow key with the purpose of a menu key.

Technical specs

One thing is sure: as lively colored as the new Corby II can be as poor it is when it comes to its hardware. Even so, if we consider it is a low cost phone for youngsters we will see it still has a lot to offer.
The 3.2” display is large enough but it offers a modest resolution of only 240×320 pixels. However you should not worry about this because the phone does not run on Google Android, which is an operating system that is incompatible with low resolutions.
Internal memory is of only 26 MB, but it can be extended with the microSD slot card. At the connectivity chapter we must highlight there is no 3G connectivity, but there is Wi-Fi, so this low cost model should be appreciated. In the absence of a wireless connection you can use GPRS or EDGE. Local transfer of files is ensured through Bluetooth 3.0 and microUSB. Worth mentioning are the internet oriented apps for Twitter and Facebook, which are preinstalled for easy access to the social networks.
We recommend you use the Corby II camera only in extreme cases: it only has 2 MP, and a maximum resolution of 1600×1200 pixels. The only extra option is smile recognition. In addition to this video clips are done at QVGA resolution and 15 frames per second.
Samsung Corby II does not use any operating system, but it uses the TouchWiz Samsung platform, while the Li-Ion 1000 mAh battery ensures autonomy of up to 620 standby hours and 10 call hours.

Availability and price

First announced in March the Samsung Corby II will be available starting from the middle of the year, the beginning of the summer. The price has not been yet announced.

HTC Sensation review

The appearance of HTC Sensation is an important event in the world of Android-smartphones. Not because the Taiwanese company showed its flagship later than its Korean rivals represented by Samsung and LG, but because Sensation at the time is the most technologically advanced smart phone based on Android. At least, if you look at such things as processor speed, amount of RAM, screen resolution and other. Announcement of the flagship in the spring can be interpreted in different ways.

However, HTC Incredible S had to be known for a while before HTC Sensation is announced. And maybe HTC where just finishing their UI Sense 3.0?

It does not matter, because Sensation brings us a year ago, when HTC has pioneered the market of Android smartphones and where true leaders in their class. So HTC Sensation is now the best Android smartphone in the world, I think we can excuse them for the delay for that.

Toshiba Thrive: Another Tablet With Android Honeycomb

As you know all tablets on the Android 3.0 Honeycomb are just as similar white and black iPads. Toshiba have desided to jump in at the last moment, which presented a tablet called Thrive. This tablet has a 10.1-inch display with canonical for Honeycomb resolution 1280x800 pixels (by the way, Thrive has to go on sale with preinstalled Android 3.1). It has Nvidia Tegra 2 built-in, there are 2 USB-ports, full HDMI-out and slot for SD. Which did affect the thickness of the tablet - its dimensions are 272 x 175 x 15 mm.
