The announcement of HTC EVO 3D smartphone and EVO View 4G tablet was held in March at CTIA Wireless 2011 event but an exact release date of new products and their prices was unknown.
This week Sprint has announced that the device HTC EVO 3D and HTC EVO View 4G will be exclusively available to subscribers of their network since June 24. If you sign a two-year contract with Sprint the cost of HTC EVO 3D smartphone will be $ 200 and HTC EVO View 4G tablet will cost $ 400.
Sprint claims that HTC EVO View 4G is the first device in its class to feature 4G (which is in other words WiMAX). It is one of the fastest wireless network connections.
EVO 3D smartphone has a 4.3 inch screen and resolution of 960 x 540 pixels (qHD) is capable of forming three-dimensional images that can be seen without special 3D glasses. EVO View 4G tablet got usual seven-inch screen. Both devices will ship with Android 2.3 OS.

It’s good to see that AMD’s Fusion technology is finally shipping. The convergence of the CPU and GPU has been looming for some time now, and while there have already been a few CPU / GPU hybrids available form the likes of Intel, the thought of having another low-power, economical to produce, cutting edge CPU / GPU combo on a mobile platform is particularly exciting.
Over the course of the past 2-3 years, we’ve critiqued most of the major ultraportables and netbooks to hit the market. The vast majority of them relied on Intel’s Atom, which has always been somewhat underpowered in most of its incarnations. The two areaa that Intel did trump AMD on the netbook front, however, were battery life and heat. AMD’s prior netbook platform, Neo, was perhaps more powerful than anything that an Atom (and an integrated GPU) could muster, but it drew more power to make that happen.Fusion bakes the CPU and GPU into one single piece of silicon, and while we have already reviewed the E-350 APU by its lonesome, we’ve been patiently waiting for a system maker to integrate the chip into a retail-ready notebook. If there’s one thing a netbook (or an ultraportable) needs to be really competitive, it’s great battery life. No matter how great the software or the hardware, an ultra-mobile machine needs great battery life to be really useful in the field. The X120e is a unit where we were paying particularly close attention to battery life. Remember, the Fusion APU was supposed to be more powerful than Neo, while also improving on energy drain.
The X100e that we reviewed last year only managed around 2.1 hours of life, while the X120e (both using a 6-cell battery) managed around 3.5 hours in the same test. We have seen reports that this machine will last even longer if you disable Wi-Fi and go easy on the screen brightness, and we believe it. Either way, over 3 hours when in use constantly is pretty impressive, and it’s a very real upgrade over the X100e’s battery life.

The Fujitsu Lifebook S710 that landed in our offices a few weeks back is a bit hard to summarize. Its definitely not the sleekest looking laptop and neither is it light on shoulders- yet its one the fastest notebooks we’ve ever tested. The bland light and dark grey tones make the Lifebook S710 seem more like a target for conservative business types. And even though its incredibly fast, it seems that Fujitsu could have done a lot more to it.
The S710 is based on the Intel Core i7 M620 CPU running at 2.67GHz along with 4GB DDR3-1066 RAM and a 128GB Intel SSD. A platform like that is incredibly fast to build upon. However, this is let down by the use of the Intel HD integrated graphics adapter and a very ordinary 14 inch LCD display with a resolution of 1366×768. What I’m trying to say is that you don’t need a Core i7 with an Intel SSD to create word documents, surf the web or read your email. You need this fast of a machine for maybe crunching numbers in excel or render 3D graphics- neither of which feels like a fit for this laptop because of a lack of a higher screen resolution or a dedicated graphics controller. Other specs on the laptop include the Intel 6200 802.11n based Wi-Fi controller, Bluetooth, Gigabit networking and built-in 3G broadband services.
To the left of the unit, you have the power connector, a covered VGA as well as DisplayPort outputs along with two USB ports, an eSATA port and a PC card slot. The front has an SD/Memory card slot, a mini Firewire port, audio inputs and outputs and a Wi-Fi switch. Moving to the right, you’ll find another USB port and the DVD writer which interesting has a latch to slide it out. My guess is that you can equip that bay with another hard drive or an additional battery. Lastly, the Gigabit Networking port sits on the back side.
The LCD on the Fujitsu Lifebook S710 is pretty average with decent horizontal viewing angles but not the best vertically. Keyboard is your old springy type that works well but makes a bit of noise. There is a trackpad as well a a pointing stick for moving the mouse around. The trackpad is too small for my liking and the buttons below it make them hard to reach when using the pointing stick, even for someone with large hands like mine. You can tap the pointing stick for a left click but will still need to stretch your thumb for the right click.
Lifebook S710 is very fast in CPU and overall tests because of its speedy SSD but fails in 3D related tests due to the lack of a discreet GPU present on both the Sony Z and the Lenovo Edge Notebooks.
Battery life is decent on the Lifebook S710 considering the high specifications. We managed to get almost four hours out of it. Replacing the optical drive with another battery should hopefully last you over six hours. The laptop didn’t very loud or hot during our testing either.
With a street price is AED 6250 (US$ 1700), the S710 is a bit on the higher side. Yes, it has some incredible specs but at the same time, a discreet GPU or a higher res screen could’ve justified it costs.

That simple analogy is all you really need to know about the highly anticipated Galaxy Tab and what it can do.
With the first legitimate competitor to iPad for the consumer-focused tablet-computer market, Samsung continues to take its cues from Apple — just as it’s been doing with cellphones.
That is not necessarily a bad thing. For all its faults, the iPad is still the tablet to beat. The Galaxy Tab takes direct aim at iPad’s shortcomings and does a credible job at addressing nearly all of them.
The most immediately noteworthy difference from the iPad is that the Galaxy is considerably smaller — physically about half the size and weight, with a 7-inch diagonal screen instead of the iPad’s 9.7 inches. However, the Tab’s 1024 x 600–pixel resolution makes this less of a big deal than you might expect. Considering the iPad’s 1024 x 768–pixel resolution, you’ll find the Tab nearly as spacious, although the screen (a standard LCD) is not as bright and as clear as the iPad’s beauty.
What you gain, however, is considerably better portability: The iPad is not always convenient to tote with you, while the Tab really feels like a jumbo-sized cellphone and slips easily into any bag and many jacket pockets.
Any screen shortcomings are rapidly put out of mind by the Galaxy Tab’s rich feature set. Everything you’d want from a modern Android phone (version 2.2, upgradeable when 3.0 hits) is here: Full app support (though, as with running iPhone apps on the iPad, many apps look JUMBO SIZE in use), a fair-enough camera (3.2 megapixels) with flash, a mobile hotspot and tethering option, and virtually no buttons. The only physical buttons are the power button and volume toggle, both on the upper right side. Four touch-sensitive Android-standard buttons on the bottom of the front screen are usable only when the display is active.
Storage is what you make of it: A 16-GB microSD card, accessible via a flap on the side, is installed by default, and you can upgrade to 32 GB.
In use, the Galaxy Tab performs well, but is not exemplary. It feels snappy enough, but longish load times can sometimes be tiresome, and webpages invariably loaded more slowly than the iPad — sometimes taking twice as long. We also ran into a few issues with apps hanging and the Wi-Fi connection suddenly vanishing without explanation. Reboots solved both issues.
On the hardware side, the light, 13.4-ounces unit just fits in a single hand, but the slick surface tends to be slippery and prone to dropping. If you’re the kind of person who is always finding his phone falling out of your grip, your Tab is going to spend a lot of time on the floor. (Maybe that’s why Jobso was so critical of these devices?)
Compounding matters is the problematic location of the power and volume buttons. Holding the device in your left hand often causes you to hit these by accident. They’re temperamental and touchy, until you eventually adapt to a grip further down the chassis.
Pricing is complicated and modeled after the cellphone, so pay close attention: The base unit is $400 with a new or upgraded two-year contract, or $600 without a rate plan. Data costs extra: $30 a month for 2 GB of service plus unlimited messaging, or $60 a month for 5 GB and unlimited messaging. Mobile Hotspot support is extra ($30 a month), and Sprint Navigation is extra, too.
These are relatively minor complaints, in the end. The Tab requires some retraining in the way you use a mobile device — it’s somewhere between a phone and a regular tablet — but once you get it, it’s a pleasure to use. The Tab ultimately reveals itself not as a competitor to the iPad but as a new class of mobile devices: a minitablet that is designed to go everywhere you do. WIRED Smaller form factor offers much better portability. Bright, high-resolution screen. Runs Flash? Oh, yeah. TIRED Some stability concerns. Proprietary connector and cable (looks like an iPod port, but ain’t). Battery is nonreplaceable.

The Dell Inspiron Duo is an impressive sight. It’s not often that we’re this enamored by a device’s physical design, but the Dell Inspiron Duo simply does it for us. The machine is a feat of engineering, and it really redefines the convertible laptop segment. This 10.1″ machine is part netbook, part tablet, but unlike many rivals, it doesn’t compromise much in terms or portability and form factor to be both. When you open up the package, it looks like a Mini 10 or any other 10″ netbook.
But once the lid is open, a simple press on the LCD allows it to swivel around and lock into place, in reverse. Close the lid back down atop the keyboard, and you’re now looking at a tablet. It’s one of the more innovative notebook designs we’ve seen in recent memory, and we cannot applaud Dell’s engineering team enough for both thinking of this implementation and nailing it with such precision.
Outside of the crazy design, the machine is a rather standard netbook on the inside. There’s an Atom CPU, a chiclet keyboard and a 32-bit copy of Windows 7 Home Premium. The Duo starts at $549.99, making it one of the more affordable convertible tablets out there. Let’s take a more detailed look at the specifications:

At 3.39 pounds, it’s hardly any heavier than your standard netbook, and the 10.1″ screen provides a standard 1366×768 screen resolution and enough room for a nicely sized chiclet keyboard. Dell has also done a good job keeping the bezel thin and the line between the swiveling LCD and the plastic remarkably thin. You can barely tell that it’s there. The textured lid was nice in our estimation, and the trackpad was nicely sized for a netbook. We liked the fact that it was texture-less; perfectly smooth and easy to navigate. The separate left/right mouse buttons were also very much appreciated, and the click travel was ideal. It’s rare that we get to say both of those things in a netbook review.
Dell also kept the palm rest stickers to a minimum (only 3!), and there’s also very little going on around the edges. While the machine looks a lot like a netbook, the port selection resembles that of a tablet. There are no ports on the front and back edges, and the left edge is only home to a headphone jack and two USB 2.0 ports (all of which are covered by a plastic shield that can be popped up when you need access).
There are no ports at all on the right edge, only a power button. Tucked just under that edge is a speaker. On the bottom, there’s a subtle docking connector which allows the machine to sit upright in the JBL speaker dock (a $50 option). This means that you can dock your machine for use with a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard since a BT module is included, and that dock also provides an Ethernet jack, SD card slot, two more USB 2.0 ports and another audio jack. There are separate AC inputs on the device itself and on the dock, and the AC updater for each is differently sized. So forget about carrying only one cable when you travel; you’ll need both.
There’s no optical drive, and surprisingly, no media card slot on the Duo itself. There’s also no video output. We cannot recall another 10.1″ netbook that lacks a video output port of some kind; even the optional JBL dock doesn’t have a video output. This fact alone leads us to believe that Dell intends for this to be a tablet first, and a netbook second.
However, there’s a full copy (32-bit) of Windows 7 Home Premium, so don’t worry about limited functionality from the software side. The keyboard and mousepad were both very rigid and solid, and overall, we felt that this was one of the more solid netbooks on the market. At $550, we didn’t expect anything less, but it’s always good to see a company live up to expectations.

Unfortunately, the 4-cell battery in the Inspiron Duo isn’t quite potent enough to pass muster. It couldn’t even last three hours on a full charge in our testing, which is low for a netbook, and very low for a tablet. Many of Asus’ netbooks last well over 4 hours, and the iPad can easily last 8, just for comparison.
