Samsung Galaxy S II

Samsung Galaxy S II
The Samsung Galaxy S was one of the best mobile phone releases of last year. In a year defined by several brilliant handsets such as the iPhone 4, Nexus S and the HTC Desire, the Galaxy S stood out even amongst such excellent competition.

You can still get the Galaxy S, and on some very good deal at the moment from all the main mobile phone shops, but it seems that Korean company Samsung feel it is time to move on to fresher pastures. Don’t feel sad though because all this means is that they are launching what they see as a worthy successor to the Galaxy S, the Samsung Galaxy S II.
The first thing that you notice about the new Galaxy S II is just how thin it is at only 8.4mm. There is currently a race going on in the smartphone world about who can make the thinnest phone possible. Currently this crown belong to the iPhone 4 but this phone, once released, will steel that title from Apple.
This is all the more remarkable considering the high specs that Samsung have managed to squeeze inside the Galaxy S II. You will get a super fast dual core 1.2GHz Exynos CPU running the latest version of Android 2.3, 1GB of RAM and a superb 4.3 inch WVGA (800×480) Super AMOLED capacitive touch screen. This resolution is not as good as some of the other high-end Android phones coming to market that use the newer qHD (960×540) resolution though.
As for cameras, this phone has two. One front and one back facing. The front 2MP camera can be used for video calls using a video call app or used with the newly release Google video for Android. The rear facing camera is 8MP and is accompanied by an LED flash. Also, because this phone is dual core, it is able to record video at resolutions up to 1080p!
The Galaxy S was always going to be a tough act to follow but the guys at Samsung have taken on the task with a confidence that shows through a great follow up phone. Let’s hope there’s more to come from Samsung over the rest of the year.
